Tamada tests at Sepang

Tamada Rd1 2013

Makoto Tamada tested at the North Track of the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, February 21-22, at the Asia Road Racing Championship Official Pre-season test.

This was the first outing for Tamada with the team, and for him it was his first to ride the Honda CBR600RR.  It was actually his first time ever to ride a 600cc machine.  Because his 2013 Honda CBR600RR could not make it on time to this test, he tested on the machine that Ryuichi Kiyonari rode last year.  Although Tamada says that it took awhile to get used to the CBR600RR, Tamada lapped at 1’07.185, which was already very close to Kiyonari’s best laptime of 1’07.129 at the same test last year.  By practice 2, Tamada passed Kiyo and marked 1’07.121.

Tamada at Sepang Official TestTamada concentrated on learning what the CBR600RR can do, and tried multiple settings to understand the machine.  By the end of Day 1, he marked 1’06.734.

He continued to learn and try different settings on Day 2, and his personal best would improve every session.  He finished 6th overall at the test, with a time of 1’06.415.

Comment, Makoto Tamada
“I thought that it would be easy for me to get used to the Honda CBR600RR, but it took longer than expected.  It was good that I learned about the CBR600RR, and I confirmed the direction of the setting.  If I push, I know I can go about 0.5 seconds faster, so I am not a bit worried.

My teammate, Azlan, with 2013 parts, made a course record and finished top in the test, so I am happy.  I took his machine out for 1 lap, but made an easy 1’06s, so I am looking forward to ride my new machine.  We still have about 2 months to the season opener, so I would take as many opportunities as possible to ride the CBR600RR”
