Qualifying at the opening round of the 2014 Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship took place Saturday, at the Sepang International Circuit North Track.
Tamada took charge immediately after the start of the qualifying session, always remaining in the top 3 throughout the whole session. It did not take time for Tamada to go faster than his best lap here. Although Tamada stood on top of the chart at one point, the top three spots were fought among Tamada’s teammate. Eventually, Zamri Baba would be on top, Zaqhwan Zaidi 2nd, and Tamada 3rd.
At near end of the session, Tamada went for a quick lap, and jumped up to 2nd. It seemed that MuSASHI Boon Siew Honda would achieve a front row sweep, but that possibility disappeared when Katsuaki Fujiwara showed a super lap at the end of the qualifying session and took pole position. Zamri came in 2nd, and Tamada finished 3rd.
Zaqhwan finished 4th to lead the 2nd row of the grid, followed by Ratthapong Wilairot and H A Yudhistra.
Race 1 and 2 will take place tomorrow, Sunday April 20th at the Sepang International Circuit.
